"Whistle while you work" appears to be the philosophy for the Jefferson Street construction workers who are working hard to get the job done.
What's the point of all this work you may ask? Read on and be dazzled by the epic saga of the construction on Jefferson street.
The truth of the matter is that our university is expanding. The purpose of the construction is to create another entry to our campus and update the drainage problem. Workers expect that they will eventually close Adams Street, but will provide connections to Downey, Clement, Fairfax, Davis, and Calhoun streets. The proposed date of completion is Dec. 1, but the renovation could possibly last as long as Feb. or March, weather providing.
"Bear with us," sighed Stacy Keith, one of the main coordinators of the project.
The Virginia Department of Transportation is heading up the Jefferson Street inspection. Several other subcontractors will be laying the pavement, putting in traffic lights and installing fencing and guard rails.
Hopefully, this will make all of our lives a little easier and help the community a great deal. I look forward to the day when all the hassle of detours and loud machinery is over.

i think the construction workers need to be a bit more careful - and they need to ask the city of radford for more information since they broke a major natural gas pipe this afternoon (10/07/98).
